Maski® is an Al tool designed for learners and teachers. It has been created to encourage learners to personalise their learning journey by using the tool for their homework, assessments and exam preparation. Likewise, teachers can use the tool to provide learners with further practice and to consolidate concepts learned in class.
Yes! Maski® is completely free to use.
Yes, users are required to complete a simple onboarding process. This includes agreeing to ‘Terms of use’ and ‘Privacy Policy’, selecting your user type (teacher or learner) and selecting your grade. Please note: Your user type and grade will determine which features you can access on Maski®. Once you’ve selected your user type, it cannot be changed.
Currently Maski® can generate informal tests, classwork and homework assignments.
Maski Adventures is an literacy initiative by Maskew Miller Learning. It gives users access to educational stories packaged in a fun and visual appealing format, perfect for younger learners! Explore exciting adventures with Maski® and his friends in the digital world of coding and robotics. Click here to access the stories.
The assessment is in PDF format, so users will be able to share it with other users or print it.
We do however suggest that users generate their own assessments so that every user generates a unique assignment. We want as many users as possible to interact with Maski®.
The Maski Maths Tutor offers step-by-step guidance through worked examples, making complex problems easier to understand. It can also explain specific topics or concepts in detail, helping you master difficult areas of mathematics. It is currently offering tutor assistance for Mathematics Grade 7-9. A user can type a message, send a voice note or send a photo.
All Maski resources conform to CAPS, the ATP and the latest DBE examination assessment guidelines.
The Maski® assessments and practice questions are in PDF format. You can use WhatsApp’s built in functionality to download, open or send media.
Maski Maths Tutor follows pedagogical instruction when tutoring these sessions.
Examples:
* The learner is guided towards the answer, instead of giving it to them immediately.
* If the learner gets the answer correct, Maski® will ask if they would like to work through another question. Maski® will progress them through the cognitive levels.
* If the learner gets the answer incorrect, or it seems like the learner is “giving up” (ie. “I don’t understand”, “I don’t get it”, etc.) then Maski® will indicate the misconception or error, provide the answer to the step, simplify the explanation, and break it down more (if possible).
* If the learner is struggling, Maski® will stick with the same question and not change the question that is being worked on, unless the learner asks for a different question.
* Maski® will know the learner’s grade to be able to serve them grade-appropriate questions.
English FAL Worksheets with various activities are now available to teachers and learners to access on Maski®. It is found under the ‘Language activities’ menu option on Maski™ WhatsApp.
